I am writing to ask a question concerning the boycott that the American Family Association has called against PepsiCo. I receive email alerts from you, and have noticed that I have not seen any mention of support of the Catholic League in regards to this boycott. It could be simply an oversight on my part and missed the alert that announced your full support of the boycott.

I am writing to ask you what your opinion is, and the Catholic League's stance is, in regards to the AFA boycott of PepsiCo. I am also interested if there is an opinion on the boycott of HP products and of Campbell's soup as well.
.
The Catholic school that is a part of my local church utilizes Campbell soup labels. I sent an email to the director of the school to bring this issue to her attention, but have not heard back. It is my plan to write to the priest of Sacred Heart of Royersford to let him know of the controversy in case he is unaware of Campbells Soup decision to fully support the homosexual agenda. A boycott is posted on the AFA site.

Note: I am not posting Unilever's products because I have decided to boycott them. I am posting this corporate info for general information. I'm sending a letter to Unilever in relation only to Lipton Tea - at least at the moment - in relation to a continued boycott of PepsiCo.

I buy several of their products - mainly Hellmann's Mayo - Knorr, Q-Tips, Vaseline, Suave, Dove, I've bought Bertolli olive oil from time to time [I switched to Goya who I find is supporting family values.] and Lipton Tea/soups/recipe products/side dishes [boycotting].

I have already stopped buying Lipton products [I'm not certain about an Iced Tea that I had at Applebees. The waitress didn't tell me for certain. Next time plain water. Since KFC and Applebees only offer PepsiCo products I plan to be really slow in going back.]

My husband was not happy with the only ONE choice of drink company option. He is a bit more of a liberal to moderate leaning to my more moderate to conservative leanings - which has been a bit of a challenge at times. :)

I'm sending my formal letter - at the moment - to the American address for Unilever. I have to condense my letter to fit email boxes - unless I'm blocked once again like I was on Frito Lay.

International mailing can be a bit expensive depending on what you mail - and usually have funky addresses. [I actually have been starting to hate mailing overseas due to just that.]

With this boycott called by American Family Association I have been learning more about the products that I have routinely bought without giving a thought really to the companies behind them. So it's been good for me just for that alone.

I'll post more on this later.

Something I learned Recently About Restaurants

I wanted to mention that I learned recently that restaurants decide on which singular product line of drinks that they offer.

- KFC [Kentucky Fried Chicken]
- Applebees

These two restaurants ONLY offer PepsiCo products. When I figured this out I only ordered water at KFC. From now on this is what I will do. An employee at KFC said that I have to write to Corporate to suggest Coco-Cola products - which is on my to-do list.

I have not decided to add KFC and Applebees to my boycott list as of yet. I'm meditating on it, and will decide once I hear back from their Corporates and what their opinions on this is concerning PepsiCo.

More later once I re-check PepsiCo's product partner page again. My next letter of protest is to be to Lipton Tea.

Mexico Fans 'Stick It' to the U.S.

After Radioshack dropped out, a Mexican newspaper has found a new U.S. corporate sponsor to help put a voodoo hex on the U.S. national soccer team, and end Mexico's decade-long losing streak. (Feb. 7)

I think this is totally uncool of Blockbuster. Kudo's to RadioShack for deciding to not sell Voodoo dolls geared against a U.S. Team, and doing the right thing.

My husband and I are considering cancelling our membership to Blockbuster since they seem to be more supportive of Mexico than our U.S.A. team.

If a mojo or hex is cast wrongfully against someone to hurt them it can boomerang back on to the person or company wrongfully casting it - or in the supporting of the wrong. There are consequences when using magic - especially in regards to personal gain.

Blockbuster - an American company so I thought - should decide to stay neutral in such things. If they think this is just supporting fun, campy stuff and/or it doesn't actually mean anything they should look further into it.

Not cool Blockbuster.

I have a letter to write to them - among a few others - this week.

I see that you are affiliated with PepsiCo.

I mainly buy your product "Quaker *Oat Meal", and do like the product.

I want to let you know that I am supporting the American Family Association call for a boycott of PepsiCo in regards to it's decision to reject a call for neutrality in regards to an activist position in support of - and in promotion of - the normalization of homosexuality and related endeavors.

I wanted to let you know that I will not be purchasing Quaker Oats products in support of this boycott.

My belief is that companies/corporates who promote - or wish to promote - a family friendly/supportive - image should remain neutral in regards to such a heated and controversial issue.

I do not support the normalization, or the promotion of the blanket acceptance, of homosexuality, and believe that it undermines the foundation of the American family and the institution of traditional marriage values.

Many people aren't aware that when their school participates in Campbell's "Labels for Education" program they are supporting a company that has openly come out in support of homosexual marriage, and it has no intentions of stopping that support.

"Labels for Education" provides equipment for schools in exchange for proofs of purchase from the family of Campbell's brands.

Many of the schools that participate don't know that Campbell's supports the homosexual publication The Advocate with advertising. The Advocate is a leading promoter of same-sex marriage.

AFA asked Campbell's to be neutral in the culture war. Campbell's refused and said it would continue to support The Advocate. The Media Daily News reported that a Campbell spokesman was quoted as saying: "Our plans for the Swanson brand [a division of Campbell's] include additional placements in The Advocate." To show their commitment to same-sex marriage, Campbell's sought out and featured

I did a bit of a search on Campbell's Soup, and am posting the company info that I learned concerning what to boycott and products to look for.

My husband, said he had read that Campbell's had merged with Heinz, but I haven't been able to verify that as of yet. He also pointed out the Quaker Oats might be a part of General Mills. I have to check that as well to make sure.

According to an article by Erik Sass in the Dec. 24 edition of the Media Daily News, Campbell's Soup will not remain neutral in the culture war. The Media Daily News reports that Campbell's will continue to support homosexual publications pushing the homosexual agenda and same-sex marriage with advertising dollars. AFA had asked the company to remain neutral in the culture war.

$500,000 went to the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays' (PFLAG) "Straight for Equality" program which, according to PFLAG's website, ( Link ) "will be used to expand workplace training."

Jacqueline Millan, director of PepsioCo Corporate Contributions, said in a PepsiCo bulletin, "We are delighted to continue our partnership with PFLAG. The Straight for Equality in the Workplace training program is unique in that it is promoting the necessary message of inclusion to untapped groups within the local community, and that is a crucial step towards building a healthy work environment."

First and foremost among the beneficiaries is International Planned Parenthood Foundation (IPPF), for whom Hewlett cut the largest check by far, granting $8.3 million to support worldwide abortion.

Of the Menlo Park-based foundation's six program areas, the most money went toward “population” issues, specifically supporting family planning and AIDS prevention worldwide. In all, the foundation's "Population Program" gave $31.8 million to 38 organizations dealing with global population issues. HP makes no profit from refurbished cartridges.

"If Hewlett Packard were whacked with laser beam precision right where it hurts financially for putting itself so firmly behind abortion supporters, that would have an impact on their thinking and actions," said Hughes.

Jack Daly, global chief communications officer for the Oak Brook. Ill., company, said there are no plans to replace Ellis on the chamber's board.

"We don't have a slot on the board to fill," Daly told the Tribune. "Richard's decision to be a member of the board was a personal decision, not a company decision."

American Family Association told the newspaper that McDonald's, who donated $20,000 to sponsor a gala thrown by the gay and lesbian chamber, will not serve as a NGLCC sponsor next year.

McDonald's has told AFA they will remain neutral in the culture war regarding homosexual marriage. AFA is ending the boycott of McDonald's. As you know, AFA called for the boycott in May after McDonald's joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).

McDonald's said McDonald's Vice President Richard Ellis has resigned his position on the board of NGLCC and that his seat on the board will not be replaced.

McDonald's also said that the company has no plans to renew their membership in NGLCC when it expires in December.
.
In an e-mail to McDonald's franchised owners the company said, "It is our policy to not be involved in political and social issues. McDonald's remains neutral on same sex marriage or any 'homosexual agenda' as defined by the American Family Association."

We appreciate the decision by McDonald's to no longer support political activity by homosexual activist organizations. You might want to thank your local McDonald's manager.

BOSTON (AP) — Comedian Sandra Bernhard says the decision by a women's shelter to cut her act from its annual benefit was based on a misleading account of what she said about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Bernhard made the remarks last month during her one-woman show in Washington before Palin visited New York to campaign. The 53-year-old comedian said Palin would be "gang-raped by my big black brothers" during a diatribe in which she also criticized Palin for opposing abortion rights.

Rosie's Place, a Boston shelter, announced Wednesday that Bernhard would not take part in its Oct. 16 luncheon, "Funny Women ... Serious Business."
.
Many women at the shelter have been victims of violence, said public relations director Leemarie Mosca.
.
"In light of our mission, we don't think violence against women is a laughing matter," she said.
.
Bernhard said she's "terribly upset" that the shelter cut her act from its annual benefit.

In a statement Wednesday, Bernhard said the decision by Rosie's Place was based on a misleading account of what she said, and her words were taken out of context.

She said the gang rape comment was part of a larger piece from her one-woman show about "women, racism, freedom and the extreme views of Gov. Sarah Palin."

"In no way am I making any sort of joke about crimes against women — quite the contrary. I'm speaking out about someone who doesn't do enough to protect women," Bernhard said. "I think if you look at the real issues I'm addressing, my intent becomes clear. I am a die-hard advocate for women's rights, and fully support the work of Rosie's Place."

Mosca said the shelter expected to book a replacement.

"Right now, our main focus is our event and making sure the event is a success," Mosca said. "And for us, that means not including Sandra Bernhard at this time."

I totally agree with the decision of Rosie's Place to uninvite Sandra Bernhard. I am a survivor of domestic violence, and do not at all appreciate Bernhard's comments.

Sandra Bernhard is rationalizing her view. Governor Palin does not deserve harrassment for her conservative view - which I do not view as extreme.

What Bernhard, and other's like her with this view, do not seem to want or care to understand that MANY women agree with Governor Palin.

Bernhard is not getting it - in how what she said - and it is not funny - concerning ANY WOMAN. It doesn't matter if they agree with her or not. EVERY woman's view should be viewed with dignity and respect.

Many women actually disagree on the issue concerning 'choice'.

My view is that a person's right to choose and be independent ENDS at the expense, negation, oppression or ending of the life of another person - especially not due simply to inconvenience.

No person should be negated such as this.

Governor Palin is a decent, American woman. She is married, has a family, and is involved in public service. She represents heartland America -

I applaud Rosie's Place for making the tough, un-pc, and right decision - and walking the walk - and not kowtowing to these media/celebrity types that believe they can say and do whatever they like and not take responsibility for who it might hurt and grieve!

Other people also have the right to also make the decision to not like it or support it.

Violence against women should not be tolerated in any forum - including supposed 'humor' cloaked hatefulness. Bernhard's comments in her show are not misleading at all.

Sarah Bernhard has been on my boycott list for awhile now, after I saw her on a regular late night TV show (I don't remember the event now) - quite a few years ago - which I turned off in disgust - being unacceptably lascivious - dancing making obscene motions - with guest artist Tom Jones. I was appalled.

(CNN)-The Florida Federation of Republican Women made the decision to boycott the Oprah Winfrey Show Saturday, after the media mogul refused to have Gov. Sarah Palin as a guest on her show until after the election wraps up.

"Women in Florida helped build Oprah into the icon she is today," Linda Ivell, President of the FFRW said in a statement. "We are deeply disappointed in Ms. Winfrey's decision to sit out the greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage."
.
The talk show host denied accusations Friday, that she was even considering the vice presidential nominee as a guest.
.
"At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a plat for any of the candidates," Winfrey wrote in a statement, responding to a story from The Drudge report claiming her staff was "sharply divided" on whether they should book the Alaska Governor.
Winfrey agreed Palin would be a "fantastic interview," but wouldn't invite her on until after the November elections.

The Florida Federation of Republican Women, the "largest political organization in Florida," celebrating the groups 58 year anniversary is also encouraging members to cancel subscriptions to O Magazine, Ivell said.
.
"We find it to be an abuse of her power -gained on the backs of our patronage of her advertising empire - to use her program to so blatantly support Obama in the face of this historic moment. So, we are tuning out and canceling our subscriptions to O Magazine and encourage other women to do the same," Ms Ivell said.

Winfrey came under fire from some of her supporters in December after campaigning with the Democratic nominee in South Carolina.

Ivell did not say the Florida Republicans would be tuning out indefinitely, but at least until 'after the election.' Adding, she and her members respect the decision to support Obama, "as every American is entitled to their personal opinion and vote."

Am I surprised at Oprah's position on this - No. Oprah endorsed Senator Obama - and not Senator Hillary Clinton.

Oprah got defensive and angry when people tried to bully her for not supporting Senator Clinton. Now she is being bullied as far as Governor Palin.

Oprah clearly cannot be unbiased in this - or to give an unbiased interview. She does not wish - at all - to give any leanings towards Senator McCain positive or negative.

Glenn Beck is getting somewhat on my nerves as well - but that is not really new. On the other side of the coin - Glenn has not had Senator Obama or Biden interviewed on his show I don't believe. I don't remember seeing them on his show - or Senator Hillary Clinton.

SNL did a skit busting on Governor Palin - but they also have been busting on Senator Clinton right along painting her as a shrew. Do I believe this will help or hurt her in her run for office at all - I don't have an answer to that.

I realized that this week when I happened to watch an episode of "Christina's Court" and they had a case between Daniel DiCriscio and Bobby Trendy. It was an interesting case too. The point I received from watching this case is that one person's busting on - or possible agenda cloaked into 'humor' is actually more hurtful than I understood it to be. People are laughing yes - but are they being diminished in their eyes at the same time? Will it be difficult to not remember the skit "funnyordie" did on Governor Palin in an american bikini with a rifle? Would this actually help diminish her as a serious candidate for V.P.?

I don't have the answer to that either.

Do I believe that the intent of those who are producing these skits - to possibly diminish - I can see where that just might be the insidious case at that.

But I do have a sense of humor, and will be more mindful of this stuff.

Did it hurt Senator Obama with the 'Obama' girl? Crush on Obama did have a catchy tune. I don't see how it actually hurt or helped him. Did he denounce this kind of lascivious stuff? Not that I heard of. But he is a guy though - married too.

SNL showed Senator Clinton not being able to stay out of Senator Obama's bed as well. Was this denounced either? Not that I heard of. I saw Senator Clinton on the show several times, and she seemed ok with it.

FYI: I actually DO try to avoid watching Saturday Night Live.

OAK BROOK, Illinois, July 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An American pro-family group has launched a boycott of McDonald's until the global fast food giant declares neutrality in the culture wars and guarantees that it will no longer support the homosexualist agenda.

The American Family Association, which has at least 2.2 million members, declared the boycott of McDonald's after the company refused repeated requests to withdraw McDonald's name, logo, and endorsement from the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) website, which lists McDonald's as a "Corporate Partner."

The AFA has stated that McDonald's status as a corporate partner means their financial and symbolic support greatly aids anti-family causes such as same-sex "marriage." McDonald's has over 31,000 restaurants, making it the largest fast food chain worldwide.

However, the AFA revealed McDonald's established closer ties with the NGLCC by donating $20,000 to obtain membership in the NGLCC and a seat on the group's board of directors.

Richard Ellis, Vice President of Communications for McDonald's USA, now sits on the NGLCC's board and has stated on the NGLCC website, "I'm thrilled to join the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and ready to go to work."

The NGLCC frequently lobbies Congress on same-sex "marriage" and other aspects of the gay agenda.

The NGLCC website proudly lists McDonalds, along with hamburger rival Burger King, US film giant Kodak, AT&T, among 87 supporting major companies, saying, "Through the commitment of our corporate partners, the NGLCC has been able to advance the ideas and causes of the LGBT business community."

AFA founder and chairman, Dr. Donald Wildmon, wrote McDonald's asking that the company remain neutral when it came to the homosexual agenda. McDonald's then responded with a letter from Global Chief Diversity Officer Pat Harris, in order to "take this opportunity to reaffirm our position on diversity."

"McDonald's is associated with countless local and national affinity groups here in the United States. We have a well-established and proud heritage of associating with individuals and organizations that share our belief that every person has the right to live and work in their community free of discrimination," replied Harris.

"We will continue to support our people and their right to live and work in an inclusive society."

"This boycott is not about hiring homosexuals, or homosexuals eating at McDonald's, or how homosexual employees are treated," states the AFA.

My question would be is Kid Rock being facetious, or is he saying in essence what's the difference between a pair of designer pants or downloading music wrongfully? Or is he completely serious? Since I can't tell he is on my boycott list until he clears it up.

If Kid Rock is being facetious - I don't see anything funny in the promotion of theft, stealing, burglary or larceny. Jail time can seriously alter a person's idea of where they think their life should go - such as obtaining a good paying job.

Is there a difference between downloading music wrongfully or ripping off a pair of designer jeans - or ripping off your friends and family? The answer is No.

Is he completely serious?

Young people do not need any encouragement to rip stuff off with a seemingly celebrity ok like this. (Not that Kid Rock is any kind of person to really look up to on any good day.)

I used to be a thief when I was a young person - I have repented of it, and see the wrongness in my doing that - so I know.

A Good Way To Donate Bibles To Africa

It was revealed to me this evening a good way to donate Bibles to Africa. I belong to American Bible Society's Bible-A-Month Club. They send to me different things to the mail for me to additionally donate to.

This month is to Africa - Kenya.

Believe me when I tell you that the email stuff supposedly from Nigeria for instance are spam. Some people were hurt from them in trying to respond to the email when they actually tried to send the Bibles.

A better way to help different areas around the world to have Bibles is donating to American Bible Society or to the International Bible Society.

ABS's Bible-A-Month Club you can donate $4.00 per Bible each month to go somewhere in the world. They also translate Bibles into different languages as well.

The Lord showed me that this would be a good way to help.

I am writing to you today concerning H.Res. 847, introduced by Rep. King of Iowa. I learned about this from the Liberty Counsel, and it is said that it is on the House calendar for today and will need a 2/3 (290 votes) majority to pass.

I am asking for your positive vote on this bill in order to uphold our American holiday of Christmas. I am finding that Christmas has been under fire for the past several years, and that there are influences - that constitute censorship - that wish to negate this fundamental American holiday from the fabric of our society.

I have been quite upset over this.

Please vote positively on this bill H.Res. 847 to uphold our American tradition.

It Will Take A Bit Of Checking To Find A Hotel That Doesn't Offer Sex Toys And Condoms In Your Room For Your Children To See.

I have to do a bit of letter/email writing like to The Catholic League, Liberty Counsel, etc to see if they have a listing of FAMILY FRIENDLY, VALUE HONORED places to stay at while on vacation - instead at the now hooker friendly hotels and such - which hookers might really be happy to know they will be more than welcome!

Satan has all kinds of people he can direct to these new sin friendly places. (Maybe if he does something right - which he doesn't - he'd really do it up at these new sin friendly hotels.)

The one thing travelers could reliably count on in their hotel rooms: a Bible in the bedside table. But like many traditions, this one may be dying.

In the rooms of Manhattan's trendy Soho Grand Hotel guests can enjoy an eclectic selection of underground music, iPod docking stations, flat-screen TVs and even the living company of a complimentary goldfish. But, alas, the word of God is nowhere to be found. Unlike traditional hotels, the 10-year-old boutique has never put Bibles in its guest rooms, because "society evolves," says hotel spokeswoman Lori DeBlois. Providing Bibles would mean the hotel "would have to take care of every guest's belief."

What might be surprising to many Americans is that the Bible-free room isn't a development just in hip New York City hotels. Across the country upscale accommodations are doing away with the Bible as a standard room amenity. And in its stead have arrived a slew of "lifestyle" products that cater to a younger, hipper (and presumably less religious) clientele. Since 2001 the number of luxury hotels with religious materials in the rooms has dropped by 18 percent, according to the American Hotel and Lodging Association. The Nashville-based Gideons International, which has distributed copies of the Christian scripture to hotels since 1908, declined to comment on this trend.

Edgier chains like the W provide "intimacy kits" with condoms in the minibar, while New York's Mercer Hotel supplies a free condom in each bathroom. Neither has Bibles. Since its recent renovation, the Sofitel L.A. offers a tantalizing lovers' dice game: roll one die for the action to be performed (for example, "kiss," "lick") and the other for the associated body part. The hotel's "mile high" kit, sold in the revamped gift shop, includes a condom, a mini vibrator, a feather tickler and lubricant. The new Indigo hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz., a "branded boutique" launched by InterContinental, also has no Bibles, but it does offer a "One Night Stand" package for guests seeking VIP treatment at local nightclubs and late checkout for the hazy morning after.

The reason for hotels' shift in focus? Leisure travel is up, business travel is down, and younger generations are entering the hotel market. Leisure now leads business by more than 10 percent in U.S. hotel stays, according to travel research firm D. K. Shifflet & Associates. With the lead in technology, design and nightlife, the boutique market is where Generations X, Y and young baby boomers want to be, says CEO Doug Shifflet. And with the boutique sector booming (boutique hotel rooms have grown by 23 percent since 2001, compared to only 7 percent for standard rooms), more traditional chains, which once catered to business clientele, are now desperate to emulate.

Sofitel's brand, for example, is taking "a new direction," says Daniel Entenberg, the "romance concierge" at the chain's flagship Los Angeles location. He was brought in two years ago in an effort to reposition the entire company's image. The chain once had Bibles in all guest rooms, but the corporate office in Dallas recently removed them due to guest inquiries about why other religious texts weren't available.

Even the staid Marriott chain, founded by a Mormon, is debating whether or not to include Bibles in its yet to be named boutique chain, which is set to launch in partnership with hipster hotelier Ian Schrager, who created the '70s disco Studio 54 and later New York City's Morgans, Royalton and Paramount hotels—which are largely credited with kicking off the boutique hotel craze. Schrager says he hasn't yet discussed the Bible amenity with Marriott, though he adds that his properties have never had in-room Bibles.

Marriott spokesman John Wolf says the Bible question is premature for the new venture, which he describes as "cutting-edge," "more urban" and "less values-oriented." Now, there's a marketing slogan no one's tried yet: "Sleep with us. Leave the values at home."

BECK: Well, just when you think that the outrage is they don`t have "An Inconvenient Book" on every nightstand, many hotel chains have now stopped including the Bible as a standard room amenity. These days Gideon`s good book is out, and iPod docking stations, flat-screen TVs, and intimacy kits, with a mini-bar full of condoms and sex dice, are in.

Is it just me?

Jim Daly is the president and CEO of Focus on the Family and author of "Finding Home: An Imperfect Path to Faith and Family."

Here you have Marriott, which is -- I mean, Marriott is a Mormon hotel chain, or always has been. The Marriott family are big in the Mormon faith. They have come out with a statement -- I want to quote it. Their new hotels will be "cutting edge, more urban, and less value-oriented."

What the heck does that even mean? What does it say about them, the hotels, or us?

JIM DALY, CEO, FOCUS ON THE FAMILY: Well, it says a lot about the culture, unfortunately. This is like replacing the Guttenberg Bible at the Library of Congress with "People" magazine. You know, it`s just -- it doesn`t make sense.

And just when the culture needs organizations, companies to be firm, to stand up for values in the culture, here we`re going to put these toys in the hotel which, you know, from what I understand, a lot of people that -- especially during the holidays when they go a hotel, they`re depressed. They`re lonely. And many, many people have found answers through the Bible being there at the bed-stand. So it`s just unfortunate all the way around that we can`t be a culture of hope.

BECK: Yes. I will tell you, I travel a lot, and I usually bring my own Bible with me, but I mean, I hate to sound like a complete zealot, but that`s just what I am. I have read the Gideon Bible. Now, when I was an alcoholic and would have known what sex dice were, I didn`t.

But they say that the reason why it`s changing is because hotels that are traditional for, you know, people traveling on business, it`s down 18 percent. But condom hotels, the ones that have the condoms and people are visiting, that business is up 23 percent, because they say people are using hotels differently now. It`s just for, you know, fun on the weekend with your wife or whatever.

DALY: Well, it`s an expensive way to buy a condom. But beside that, I mean, it`s just amazing that, again, I think they may be misreading the American people. I don`t think that`s necessarily the trend.

I think what people are looking for -- I just went to Disneyland, and my wife and I stayed at a hotel nearby. I would have been horrified if my two boys 5 and 7 to walk into that hotel room and have them open the drawer and say, "Daddy, what`s this?"

BECK: Yes.

DALY: You know, it`s just not where we`re at, and I think there might be a handful of people that might much rather have something encouraging in there for people that are desperate and lonely to be able to pick up and read and be hopeful again.

BECK: It really amazes me that we always seem to play to the bottom denominator. We don`t strive to be better than we are. We always just seem to reach down in the barrel.

DALY: Why do it?

BECK: Yes. Jim, thanks a lot. I appreciate it.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue explained today why the protest of the Miller Brewing Company has ended:

“From the beginning of the Folsom Street Fair controversy, the position of the Catholic League has been that it was insufficient for the Miller Brewing Company to simply apologize for the misappropriation of its logo on an offensive Last Supper promotional poster. What we wanted was an acknowledgment that there were other extremely disturbing anti-Catholic aspects to this event. We have now secured that missing piece. Miller is now saying that following a review of what happened, ‘we are aware of other disrespectful activities, objects and groups associated with or present at the fair which, like the promotional poster, violate our marketing policies. We extend our original apology to include these unfortunate events and items as well.’

“This has been a team effort. We are particularly grateful for the support that several bishops and ad hoc groups have shown, especially the wonderful people in Michigan’s Chaldean community.

“The Catholic League is happy that Miller has reconsidered this ugly issue and has no plans to revisit it again. Accordingly, the boycott is off. So, too, is our anti-Miller PR campaign. It remains to be seen to me if Miller can start to be, and remain to be, a cleaner company. I'm reading recently around the net how Miller has been more than a bit controversial lately on different issues - from being supportive from smut to illegal immigration. Maybe with the new merger with Molson Coors then maybe they will be able to keep their noses clean.

I'm skeptical.

What they sponsored, and got away with maintaining, at the Folsom Street Fair was pretty bad.

There is a difference between sponsoring or being a 'party' beer, and sponsoring filth - and being/sponsoring an issue that is subversive to the United States with the illegal immigration which undermines common working people here.

I think it contributes to union busting and upholding/promoting that it is ok to break the law if the law is simply inconvenient to keep.
.
No matter what the Catholic League says about ending the boycott - I might still be simply done with the Miller Brewing Company.

Like I said before - I'm skeptical.

P.S. I do like that the Board of Directors of the Folsom Street Fair issued an apology though. I kind of know, after seeing the photos, that they are not at all done with staying out of trouble or being any cleaner however. Family friendly the Fair is NOT. I can safely say that I will never travel to visit the Folsom Street Fair, or recommend it to ANYONE.

CARLIN: Correct. Counting a few years in radio, yes.

BECK: How do you feel about that?

CARLIN: Very well. It`s -- you know, we have these numbers that we all honor as milestones.

BECK: Yes.

CARLIN: And so 30 years on HBO, 50 years in comedy and show business. And 70 years on the planet.

BECK: It`s weird. Tomorrow is my 30th anniversary in radio.

CARLIN: How do you like that?

BECK: You know. It`s not 50. The CD...

CARLIN: Yes.

BECK: This is everything that you`ve -- this is all of it? This is what you`ve done? .

CARLIN: These DVDs...

BECK: You were talking about the forest fires. And you said something extraordinarily honest about your point of view on the forest fires, that -- well, go ahead, say it.

CARLIN: Well, overbuilding. Hyper development. Americans seem to think that the party`s going to last forever and the holiday goes on and on. And they don`t really see the error of certain things.

I mean, Thomas Raynesford Lounsbury was an educator in the 19th century, and he said, "It never ceases to surprise me at the infinite capacity of the human mind to resist the introduction of useful knowledge."

And that`s what it is. People know better. People sense better. But they go against it. They just think there are no consequences.

BECK: It kills me that people, you know, build up -- you know, you go to Hollywood, and you see these houses on the cliffs.

CARLIN: Yes.

BECK: And you`re thinking -- and you can`t get insurance for them.

CARLIN: No. That -- and that reality may make people change their habits eventually.

CARLSON: Right. Now, you got a lot of heat for that, saying that.

CARLIN: Yes. A little bit.

BECK: I have, you know, talked about the fires this week.

CARLIN: Yes.

BECK: And people are all up in arms. Are you amazed that we live in a world that you just -- has it gotten worse, George?

CARLIN: Oh, yes.

BECK: You`ve been putting this stuff -- saying outrageous stuff forever.

CARLIN: It`s a steady downhill slide. You know, we`re headed -- this country is really finished. I mean, it really is technically finished. It`s just a matter of playing out the end-game.

BECK: Well, that`s happy.

CARLIN: Well, it`s true. It`s true. You can see it, you can smell it. Anyone who can`t see it or smell it doesn`t understand.

BECK: Yes.

CARLIN: There`s a medical term that they use in hospitals when a person has no future left on this planet, they can`t be helped anymore. And they put it on the chart: CTD, "Circling the Drain".

And that`s what we`re doing. We`re slowly circling the drain. And the circles get smaller and they get faster. I enjoy it. Personally, I don`t have a stake in the outcome. I personally enjoy this circus that I`ve been invited to.

I`ve often said when you`re born in the world you`re given a ticket to the freak show. When you`re born in America, you`re given a front row seat. And I couldn`t enjoy it more.

BECK: I would love to spend more time with you, sir.

CARLIN: Thank you. We should do it.

George Carlin is still on my boycott list. I posted what he has been saying recently, because it is the one time I'm finding myself somewhat agreeing with his logic.

Even if I do wince in listening to "Natural Disasters" - which I found it to be terrible to listen to, and is why George Carlin is on my boycott list. I couldn't stand listening to him anymore, and still can't.

Maybe people will listen to George?

After all he is being interviewed on his views on stuff all over the place.

People certainly are really eager to distance themselves from, and write out of society, God.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS: Chester Arthur Stiles made his first court appearance on October 17, 2007 and authorities say he now faces up to 24 charges related to the alleged videotaped sexual assault of an underage girl and an incident involving the molestation of a 6-year-old girl in 2003.

Two days prior, cops in Nevada announced that the nationwide manhunt for Stiles ended when Henderson, Nev. cops arrested the 37-year-old fugitive during a routine traffic stop. Police tell AMW that two officers stopped a white Buick Century without plates at around 7 p.m. when Stiles reportedly gave the officers a California driver's license that looked nothing like him. One of the arresting officers, Mike Dye, stated in a press conference that Stiles admitted at the time of his arrest that "he was Mr. Stiles, the person wanted on America's Most Wanted."

I wanted to say that I listened to both promos, and I find myself agreeing with you-Disney-for removing God from the placement in the advertisement following the actor's names. It would indeed put the emphasis on the actor's instead of on Moses.

I have a question. Is it possible to place 'Chosen By God' in the correct position of the advertisement following the Narrator's voice: "Narrator: An ordinary man, an extraordinary calling." I find then that God would then appear in the correct context.

I believe it would be unfortunate if God would be removed from the advertisement altogether. Moses was indeed chosen by God.

I would hope you would reconsider. I believe that this would correct the issue other Christians are having with the ad spot.

I've been following the issue some Christians are having with Disney over the upcoming animated movie "The Ten Commandments" from Promenade Pictures.

I listened to both of the advertisement spots. I'm finding I'm agreeing with Disney. The advertisement that was edited had God listed in the wrong place which would have put the emphasis on the actor names instead of Moses.

"Chosen By God" should have appeared after the Narrator's voice:

I'm going to write to Radio Disney and ask them if it could be re-edited to list God after the Narrator instead of after the actor's names.

It's a movie about the Bible, but family-friendly Disney Co. is moving heaven and earth to make sure the word "God" is stricken from some advertisements promoting an upcoming animated film on Moses and the Ten Commandments.

Radio Disney was to broadcast a radio spot for Promenade Pictures, makers of the film "The Ten Commandments," but the company sent an e-mail earlier this month instructing that the phrase "chosen by God" be stripped from the script.

"Our BS&P [Broadcast Standards and Procedures] said Both scripts need to include the studio mention and omit the following line: CHOSEN BY GOD.... Please let me know if you have any questions," reads the e-mail, sent Oct. 2 to Promenade media buyer Casey Baker by Radio Disney Network sales associate Jason Atkinson.

"In connection with the Ten Commandments, I did find it offensive," said Promenade president and Chief Operating Officer Cindy Bond. "God in our movie is the main character. You rip the whole guts out of the piece."

Bond said that because Disney has just the target audience the film seeks — children and 'tweens — she complied with Disney's request and had the ad redone without mention of God.

"To walk away from a place that has our exact core audience ... I ordered the spot to be recut and re-edited," Bond said. "If you get them into the theater, they'll hear plenty about God."

The voices for the animated characters in "The Ten Commandments" are done by actors Elliott Gould (God), Christian Slater (Moses), Sir Ben Kingsley (narrator) and Alfred Molina (Ramses).

Other radio stations and shows — some Christian and some not, including Ryan Seacrest's and Dr. Laura's programs, agreed to air the commercial as is, according to Bond.

Radio Disney has said in other media reports that it made the request because its policies require mention of the studio in its commercials and it decided to replace the "chosen by God" phrase with "from Promenade Pictures" because the original script made it sound as though the actors were chosen by God, not Moses, as was the intended meaning.

Mention of God isn't prohibited in the company's standards and procedures, according to Radio Disney.

Liberty Counsel, a religious issues litigation and Christian advocacy group, has petitioned Radio Disney to reconsider its requirement that "God" be chucked from the spots for the movie.

"It's highly offensive that the family-friendly company Disney portrays itself to be would actually eliminate God from an ad about 'The Ten Commandments,'" said Liberty Counsel's founder and chairman Mathew D. Staver. "How ridiculous can you be? I'm asking Radio Disney to use some common sense and stop censoring this ad."

Promenade Pictures was established by former Paramount Pictures head and legendary Hollywood producer Frank Yablans, who co-founded Buena Vista Pictures with self-proclaimed Baptist Walt Disney in the '50s.

Promenade, as Bond describes it, is a film studio "built on family values" — a sort of "modern-day Buena Vista within a Judeo-Christian point of view."

"If Walt Disney would be aware of something like this happening, he'd be rolling in his grave," she said.

The production company has two other animated movies coming out based on biblical parables: "Noah's Ark: The New Beginning," due out in 2008, and "Gideon's Gift."

Promenade says it wants to expose audiences to the stories and characters in the Christian and Jewish scriptures.

"The goal of the movie and the goal of the whole series is to interest people in the greatest stories ever told and what we feel were the greatest superheroes that ever existed," Bond said.

And though Promenade Pictures doesn't pit itself as an anti-Hollywood movie studio, according to Bond, she does encounter discrimination against Christian themes.

"We're not an organization saying, 'Oh, Hollywood, you're bad,'" she insisted. "But there's definitely a prejudice when you get into the God of the Bible."

I don't think I heard someone say this as of yet, because everybody has been so shocked and angry.

Thank you Darrin Tuck for turning the video into the police which brought to light what Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles has been doing - which hopefully - God Willing - will bring him to justice soon.

If I had found a video such as this, I honestly would have turned it into the police sooner. Whether it was out of fear of being arrested - which happened - not knowing what to do, or for whatever reason the tape was not turned in sooner - the point is Darrin did try to do the right thing, and turned over the video.

Darrin did take the risk and did the right thing.

I'm thankful that 'Madison' is still with us, and for the most part ok.

I noticed with the news reports that Darrin isn't getting any credit at all for doing the right and good thing - even if it is belated.

Darrin does look guilty about something - But on this video tape he did the right thing. I'm glad that Darrin didn't decide to burn the tape instead rather than turn it in.

My point is maybe he can be given a bit of a break.

Police Get Tips To Girl's Identity
Detective: Hundreds Of Tips Received On Sex Tape Investigation

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- Officers said they have received more than 100 tips concerning the identity of a girl being abused in a pornographic tape. Nye County police are trying to identify her and her adult male attacker.

"It the most disgusting thing you could possibly imagine," Detective David Boruchowitz said. "The worst thing you could imagine happening to this girl happened."

Boruchowitz said the girl appears to only be 4 to 5 years old when the tape was filmed and, it appears, she has been victimized a lot. Detectives said the crime is gaining national attention, which has led to hundreds of calls about the identity of the girl and the male assaulting her.

"We really know very little," Boruchowitz said. "What we know is Darren Tuck, a local resident, turned in this tape to our detectives division."

Tuck told detectives he found the tape in the middle of the desert. Police said that, after an investigation, they found Tuck had possession of the tape for about five months, showing it to others.

"He's absolutely not telling the whole truth," Boruchowitz said. "I think Darren Tuck could provide more information that could help us in this investigation, although he's chosen not to."
Detectives said Tuck has no prior convictions or arrests of this nature, but has been charged with possession of child pornography and promotion of sexual acts of a minor. If convicted, he could get sentenced to life in prison.

Hate speech is just that.

It doesn't matter if it is cloaked in a illusion of humor, music, print or art.

Imus may have thought he was being cool making controversial comments against a university women's basketball team - then another university being cool highlighted artists at their basketball game that promoted exactly the same controversial thing. (50 cent was one of the artists) Kathy Griffin may have thought she was being campy, irreverant and funny. Elton John promotes images of burning churches in his concert and holds his hedonistic birthday bash in - last I checked - a Christian church. Mel Gibson needs to quit drinking for starters. Michael Richards lost his temper. Jerry Lewis forgot himself. (I don't remember at all when his skit was ever appropriate for TV - you might hear this kind of talk in cocktail circles or bars maybe. I honestly do not know what he was thinking, and should retire from - at least - the TV part of the telethon.)

Then you have musicians - hip-hop/rappers strongly - who sing of violence and degradation of women.
.
(I believe that the woman's movement has failed which endeavored to bring an end to the mistreatment and inequality of women.)
.
You have newspapers printing pictures that one major world religion found to be offensive. People were killed as a result. I posted an article, on another of my blogs, about a university newspaper printing the same photos - and another university newspaper published out of retaliation different photos that another world religion found to be offensive.

But somehow this was justified as student expression.
.
Hate speech is wrong. It doesn't matter how it is cloaked in.
.
There should be agreement all the way around about this.
.
It is TRUE that people do feel the way, and talk the way, these artists/individuals are reflecting. It does reflect 'real' life.

There are 'God/Jesus/Religion - or particular religion/denomination haters', 'Jew haters', 'Gay haters', '_____ fill in the blank Ethnic/Race haters', 'Fat people haters', 'Disabled people haters', and/or simply haters of anyone or anything different thinking/reflecting than themselves, AND lets not forget the haters of those who argue against their inappropriateness and evil - AND who call them on it.

People have been beaten up and killed over this stuff.
.
Maybe it is realized then in people's minds that this stuff really isn't humorous, campy, irreverant, funny, expression or ok in the first place.

There are those who would deny this fact - or are simply oblivious to this fact - but there are indeed boundries.

It has to be seen for what it is.

WRONG, and to be fought against, all the way around.

The Lord said to me that it is not already good for Ms. Griffin to make the statement such as she did. He is encouraging me to forgive her, because her path is not good already. I think it is a sad thing indeed for her when I think about it.

Without the Lord actively in someone's life it is like a plant that is never watered. The person becomes sick, withers and dies. (I read that Gehenna is not a good place.)

It doesn't change my mind that I will not buy or support any of her stuff, (unless she repents of course.)

There are many people that I know - including myself - who would be, and are, deeply offended by what she declared. I don't see it at all as humor - somethings you just simply do not say, or do, even if it is out of simple respect and regard for other people.

Ms. Griffin is entitled to her opinion. I don't watch her show that she received the award for, and I'm glad. I did not know she was like this. I have the option to not watch her show - which I won't. An awards show is different, and is open to many other people - in that her comment is totally inappropriate and abusive.

FYI: I don't believe it is possible for someone to be a 'Militant Atheist' and a Catholic - Christian - at the same time.

“Mel Gibson. Michael Richards. Isaiah Washington. Imus. Jerry Lewis. Every time a celebrity offends a segment of the population, he pays a price, in one way or another. The question now is whether Kathy Griffin will pay a similar price for her outburst. And as we have learned, her verbal assault was calculated.

“In an interview with Houston’s gay magazine, OutSmart, Griffin described herself as a ‘complete militant atheist.’ Unfortunately, her kind of vulgar in-your-face brand of hate speech found a receptive audience on Saturday: The Hollywood Reporter says her foul remark ‘drew laughs.’

“It is incumbent upon Dick Askin, chairman and chief executive officer of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, to denounce Griffin’s obscene and blasphemous comment; a statement should also be read on Sunday. After all, it is his organization that is responsible for the Creative Arts Emmy event. Responding to complaints from the Catholic League, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has decided to censor the vulgar remarks that comedian Kathy Griffin made when receiving her Creative Arts Emmy for her show, “My Life on the D-List.” Last Saturday, Griffin, upon winning the award for Outstanding Reality Program, blurted out a scripted remark, “S#.# it, Jesus, this award is my God now.”

The Associated Press reports today that Griffin’s comment will be censored from the taped airing of the awards ceremony this Saturday on E! On Sunday, Fox will carry the live Primetime Emmy Awards show.

It makes no difference to me if she apologizes or not. Her comment is totally unacceptable to me, and I don't support individuals who are antichrist. She can have her temporal 'god', and I do not have to buy, or support, any of her stuff.

Some of these individuals out of Hollywood seem to think that they can say and do whatever they like without regard to other people's feelings or dearly held beliefs.

Maybe it's time that they are seen for who they really are - for the offensive and rude individuals that they really are.

Maybe Amnesty International should now obtain funding from the 'State', and shouldn't be surprised if the faithful in God decide to withdraw their support.

I believe that an official apology should be issued from Amnesty International for this Faux Pas and/or Ms. Kate Gilmore should step down.

I am respecting the Church's position in this matter, unlike the obvious, and outright, disrespect shown from Amnesty International.

As expected, Amnesty Inter-national, the group that monitors human rights around the world, approved an abortion-rights policy at its biennial conference in Mexico City; the policy was first adopted this past spring.

Responding to criticism from the Vatican, as well as from American bishops, Amnesty issued a news release on June 14 saying that it does not promote abortion as a "universal right" and "remains silent on the rights and wrongs of abortion." More recently, Kate Gilmore, Amnesty's deputy secretary-general, criticized the Church's opposition, holding that "our purpose invokes the law and the state, not God."

We branded this response as "simply dishonest," pointing out that abortion is a human rights issue, not a religious one.
.
In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, wherein it said, "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person." In 1959, the same body issued the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and in the Preamble of Resolution 1386, it said, "Whereas the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth…." (Our emphasis.) And in 1989, the same entity proclaimed that "every child has the inherent right to life."

In short, Amnesty International has betrayed its mission by violating the most fundamental right of all—the right to be born. We urge Catholics to withdraw their support of this phony organization.

We hope that Amnesty InternationaI's work against torture, against the death penalty and for the proper administration of justice including for women and girls will continue to draw active support from people of conviction the world over," said Kate Gilmore.

Defending the right of women to sexual and reproductive integrity in the face of grave human rights violations, Amnesty International recently incorporated a focus on selected aspects of abortion into its broader policy on sexual and reproductive rights. Yesterday Cardinal Martino, through an interview, encouraged Catholics to withdraw support for Amnesty International, claimed that Amnesty International is "promoting abortion rights". Amnesty International's actual policy, however, standing alongside its long-standing opposition to forced abortion, is to support the decriminalisation of abortion, to ensure women have access to health care when complications arise from abortion and to defend women's access to abortion, within reasonable gestational limits, when their health or human rights are in danger.

"Amnesty International stands alongside the victims and survivors of human rights violations. Our policy reflects our obligation of solidarity as a human rights movement with, for example, the rape survivor in Darfur who, because she is left pregnant as a result of the enemy, is further ostracised by her community," said Kate Gilmore.

"We are a movement to protect citizens including the believer but we do not impose beliefs. Ours is a movement dedicated to upholding human rights, not specific theologies. Our purpose invokes the law and the state, not God. "Aetna will pay for a woman to receive an abortion for any reason at any time during her pregnancy. Whether she is 6 weeks pregnant or 6 months pregnant, whether it is her first or her tenth abortion, the company imposes no restrictions whatsoever," according to Epiphany Funds, a company which was invested with Aetna and is now aiming to have Aetna change its policy.

Gina Emrich of Epiphany Funds told LifeSiteNews.com that "In addition, only the very largest Aetna policy holders have the opportunity to exclude this coverage, meaning most policy holders are funding abortions, whether they intend to or not."

Epiphany Funds, a Catholic mutual fund, was both an investor in Aetna and had Aetna coverage for their employees until they discovered the Aetna abortion policy. The portfolio manager of the Epiphany Core Equity Fund, Adam Auten, contacted Aetna's CEO, Mr. Ronald Williams, requesting a change in their policy to restrict coverage of abortions to only those that are medically necessary.

In his July 2 letter to Aetna President and CEO Ronald Williams, Auten noted that Aetna, like most insurance providers only covers procedures that are "medically necessary". However, Auten noted that Aetna has made an exception for abortion where there is no restriction on coverage.

"Aetna premium payers and shareholders should not be required to pay for this elective (abortion) procedure," he wrote.

Because the only Aetna response came from a regional office and did not address the issue, Mr. Auten contacted their Investor Relations department. Their spokesman, Jeff Chaffkin, stated that their coverage of abortion is "insignificant" and not a priority for anyone at Aetna.

Epiphany Funds eliminates companies whose activities include abortion, pornography, contraception, and embryonic stem cell research. However, the company is committed to being active shareholders and will engage corporate executives in dialog to try to change policies that they believe harmful.

Emrich told LifeSiteNews.com that "As a result of their lack of response or even a willingness to have a meaningful dialogue, we are starting an email campaign to encourage Aetna to change their policy."

"We feel that in addition to the abortion battle being fought on the front lines at abortion clinics, corporations have to be held accountable for their activities and policies that contribute to this horrific problem," she said.

"I am hopeful" about Glitter's possible release," Khin said. "I believe punishment has now been sufficient. My client has expressed a wish to return home."

If the glam rock star returns to Britain, he could face charges under sex tourism laws, the newspaper said.

LIHUE, Hawaii — Bette Midler cut down more than 230 trees around one of her properties on the island of Kauai without a permit, and the state has recommended she be fined.

The staff of the Board of Land and Natural Resources recommended $6,500 in fines for having the trees felled and for building a graded road without permits required for the land zoned for conservation use.

The singer and actress will pay the fines and will follow a replanting program, her attorney Max W. J. Graham said.
.
The actress and movie star, who was born in Honolulu, didn't realize permits were needed to remove the trees on a vacant 58,000-square-foot parcel of land on Kauai's North Shore, Graham said.
.
"The whole idea with cutting the trees down was with the idea of improving the lot with native species" instead of the nonnative, invasive species that had grown there, Graham said. "It's unfortunate that a mistake was made."
.
The National Tropical Botanical Garden, which maintains three gardens on Kauai, will design a replanting plan that consists of appropriate native plants, Graham said.
.
A botanist hired by Midler after the fact said 120 Java plum trees, 100 octopus trees and 10 to 20 Madagascar olive trees that were cut down were all nonnative species. Some native trees also were removed from the property, the botanist said.

Midler, known for her longtime commitment to the environment, was once known as the Compost Queen and appeared on billboards in Los Angeles advocating green recycling containers are for yard trimmings.

Midler is set to replace Celine Dion as a headline performer at Las Vegas's renovated Caesars Palace next year.

Isn't it celebrities that are scaring people concerning the supposed crisis of Global Warming? I don't believe in cutting down any tree unless it is for a sing and dance reason - native tree or no.

I try to do a lot in my house as far as recycling, tree planting, not using pesticides. I changed almost all of my light bulbs to CF bulbs. I signed up for total wind power for my house through Peco Wind. I've tried to reduce my auto travel to use less gas, and tried to not use my air conditioner as much for the same reason. (You use quite a bit of extra gas just in using the air conditioner.) I try not to use as many plastic trash bags, but switched to paper lawn bags instead. I don't water my lawn, and don't plant generally plant annuals-except on my porch. I even recycle dish water with watering my plants.

I've been improving quite a bit on this over the years.
.
I take this stuff seriously.
.
My feeling is that by Ms. Midler cutting down 230 trees for a driveway counteracted all that I did in my house this year for the environment.
.
You either take this stuff about the environment seriously or you in reality don't. Is it ok to advocate only as long as it is convenient and doesn't require any sacrifice?
.
I used to be a bit of a fan of Ms. Midler.
.
I'm finding that many of these celebrities are just simply full of baloney.

I care about what kind of world my grandchildren will inherit.

ALERT! Stop Ocean City, New Jersey from Using Ancient Rainforest Timbers for Boardwalk Decking

TAKE ACTION! Ocean City, New Jersey is a seaside resort that has a 2.5 mile wooden boardwalk fronting the Atlantic Ocean... Citizens are campaigning to stop the city from using FSC certified ipê timbers for its current one block boardwalk re-construction project and for any future re-decking projects... In 1996, when Ocean City announced a plan to re-deck the entire boardwalk with ipê, a grassroots group formed to oppose the use of rainforest wood. After 22 months of successful campaigning the City Council adopted a Resolution in May 1997 which stated that they "...will no longer purchase tropical rain forest hardwood for the boardwalk in Ocean City"... Fast forward ten years to January 2007 and the issue of using ipê industrially harvested from ancient rainforests rears its ugly head again. But this time, the city presents ipê as an environmentally responsible choice as long as it is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. While the evidence is mounting worldwide regarding major problems with the FSC's certification of ancient forest logging as "responsible" while implying environmental sustainability, the city uses the endorsement that major environmental organizations give to FSC certified products as justification for using ipê... Citizens have repeatedly requested a public forum to discuss the failures of FSC certification and the insufficiencies of the city’s materials analysis, but their requests have been ignored... Based upon false and misleading information from major environmental groups, the City of Ocean City is to purchase ancient rainforest wood in the name of environmental responsibility. In order to protect ancient forests, the people who live there, and global climate; this purchase must be stopped and an important precedent set that industrial scaled ancient forest logging must end forever. TAKE ACTION!

Boardwalk Battle Raging In Ocean City

(CBS 3) OCEAN CITY, N.J. There is a battle raging over the boardwalk in Ocean City and it came to a head on Thursday night with protestors joining vacationers on the boards.
.
The choice to rehab the boardwalk with wood from the rain forest has generated a great deal of controversy.
.
The wood Ipe is only used on a few blocks of the Ocean City boardwalk but that is about to change.
.
Ipe has held up well and has withstood the large crowds that walk on the boardwalk each summer.
.
And it is because of that, city council voted to use the wood again on 9th Street where repairs are needed.
.
However, the decision to use the wood has some people up in arms.
.
"One block equals approximately 2,000 acres of deforestation and I think that’s awful," protestor Rhonda Vanwingerden said.
.
The protestors voiced their opinion and delivered their message to city council Thursday evening."I urged you to do the responsible thing, to overturn your previous decision to use Ipe wood on the Ocean City boardwalk," one protestor voiced to council.
.
The protestors who are against the use of Ipe said the alternative of classic lumber is 40 percent cheaper and just as reliable.
.
Late Thursday night, city council voted 4-3 to recommend that the mayor's office rescind the purchase of Ipe.
