One of the most famous paintings of all time, Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper (about 1495-1497) decorates a wall at Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. This mural depicts the moment immediately following Christ’s dramatic announcement to his disciples that “One of you shall betray me.” Over time, much of the mural deteriorated because Leonardo painted with an oil-tempera mixture that did not stick well to the wall. This photograph shows the mural after a 22-year restoration project was completed in 1999.

_____
I have a picture of The Last Supper on my kitchen wall. It is an inexpensive photo that I picked up. I didn't pay attention to the details if the picture until I watched The Da Vinci Code. In my photo - In what The Da Vinci Code claims to be Mary Magdalene is seated to the right of Jesus, and in this above photo to the left. The positioning of everybody else is changed I noticed as well. I wonder why the difference? Now I would believe that the photo listed above from Encarta would be the more accurate presentation of the painting. There are also 12 individuals sitting at the table along with Jesus. If this would be Mary then Judas most likely would be the one missing from the table. But then it is Leonardo's interpretation. It wouldn't surprise me if Mary was present for The Last Supper, since she was a devoted disciple.
It's a mystery to me.
